Philippine Basketball Legends Pays Courtesy Visit to
Philippine Embassy in Riyadh

(Riyadh, 6 March 2016) The five-member team of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) composed of PBA Legends Marlou Aquino, Jerry Codiñera, Kenneth Duremdes, EJ Fiehl and Noli Locsin, came to the Philippine Embassy to pay a courtesy visit to His Excellency, Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago.

The Ambassador welcomed the group, together with an all-Filipino rapper group called Flip Flop Rappers, in his office.

Missing

During the short meeting, the Ambassador expressed his appreciation to the group for coming to Saudi Arabia, particularly in Riyadh, for a friendship game with other Filipino basketball teams, and give enjoyment to the Filipinos working in Riyadh as well.

The PBA Legends arrived in 4 March 2016 for their basketball game in Dammam. On 5 March 2016, the group went to Riyadh for a game against the All Star Riyadh Team at the Riyadh Sports Club in Wadi Laban. Their games were organized by the Orbit Showtime Network. (END)

Philippine Embassy Donates Philippine Published Books to the
King Fahad National Library

(Riyadh, 7 March 2016) As part of the Philippine Embassy’s aim to further increase the awareness of Saudi Arabia in Philippine culture and heritage, His Excellency Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago, visited the King Fahad National Library today and donated various Philippine published books to the library.

Ambassador Tago met with the Library Manager, Mr. Mohammed Al-Rashid to formally endorse the books which include the Spanish versions of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Most of the books donated were published by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

After the short turn-over ceremony, Mr. Al-Rashid, together with the other library staff, toured Ambassador Tago inside the library and showed him the various collection of books housed inside the building. Mr. Al-Rashid also showed the Ambassador a 1200 year old copy of Qu’ran displayed in the lobby of the library as well as a collection of old coins and paper money which was previously circulated in the Kingdom.

The Philippines hopes to donate more books in the future to the library to complete its Filipiniana section and to further give a deeper understanding of the rich and diverse culture and heritage of the Philippines, not only the Saudi citizens but other nationalities as well.

Philippine Embassy Commemorates the
30th Year Anniversary of the
1986 EDSA People Power Revolution

(Riyadh, 25 February 2016) - The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh commemorated the 30th Anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution with a program on 25 February 2016 which was held at the Liwasang Bonifacio Philippine Embassy Grounds.

This year’s theme, EDSA 30: Pagbabago Ipinaglaban N’yo, Itutuloy Ko” where the torch symbolizing the gains of EDSA is being passed on to the young generation of Filipinos today, who enjoy the freedom and democracy that the revolution heroes has fought for back in EDSA in 1986.

The program was attended by Philippine Embassy personnel and representatives from Philippine-curriculum Schools in Riyadh.

First Secretary and Consul Christopher Patrick T. Aro read the message of President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III. In the President’s message, he called on the generations of Filipinos not to forget what was fought for in EDSA in 1986 and that they continue to unite and fight for the Philippines. In this way, our country will rise prosperous and renewed for the future.

Three (3) student representatives from Elite International School, Future Generation Philippine International School and International Philippine School Riyadh, showed their outstanding talent in public speaking through a declamation piece answering the question, “Protecting the Gains of EDSA: My Contribution as a Filipino Youth”.

Grade 7 students from the International Philippine School in Riyadh performed, “Tara Na, Kanta Na, Pilipinas” while Grade 10 female students, on the other hand, performed “Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas.” Students from the Future Generation Philippine International School sang “Handog ng Filipino sa Mundo”, the famous theme song of EDSA People Power Revolution.

The program ended with a meaningful message from First Secretary and Consul Christopher Patrick T. Aro who emphasize that change can be achieved through peaceful ways and to continue to inculcate among Filipinos their concern for each other and mostly, not to lose their love for their country.
