Saudi Government Bans Photos and Videos in
Mecca and Medina Holy Sites

(Riyadh, 07 January 2018) – The Embassy of the Philippines in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia wishes to advise all Filipinos pilgrims that the Saudi Arabian government through the Ministry of Hajj has banned pilgrims from taking photos and videos for any purpose and using any device at Mecca's Masjid al-Haram and Medina's Masjid an-Nabawi.

In case of violation, security officers have been instructed to confiscate the camera and photos. Legal action will be taken against the offenders.

The measure was imposed to protect and preserve two of Islam's holiest sites, prevent the disturbance of worshippers and ensure tranquility while performing acts of worship.
