Embassy Conducts 3rd Lecture on West Philippine Sea
(Riyadh, 17 February 2015) – The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh conducted its third lecture on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) at Al Taj International School in Riyadh on 16 February 2015.
It was the third of its series lectures for 2015 on the issue of the West Philippine Sea and the ongoing case filed by the Philippines against China with the Arbitral Tribunal in The Hague. The lecture was conducted by Vice Consul Red Genotiva. In 2012, the Embassy also conducted a lecture series on WPS at Philippine-curriculum schools in Riyadh.
In attendance were senior-year students from Al Taj International School, teachers and principal.
During his lecture, Mr. Genotiva highlighted the strategic and policy imperatives for the Philippines as an archipelagic State. He explained to the students the importance of understanding the PHL government’s position and response in addressing the dispute with China on WPS through arbitration as a peaceful, rules-based and enduring resolution to the dispute.
Before he concluded, Mr. Genotiva challenged the students of Al Taj to use what they learned during the lecture to read and learn more about the issue of the WPS.
He also thanked the teachers and management of Al Taj International School for graciously hosting the lecture.
The next lecture on WPS will be held at Future Generation Philippine International School on 23 February 2015. (END)
