Embassy repatriates 22 OFWs of Mohammad Al-Mojil Group (MMG)

Missing

(Riyadh, 02 April 2015) – The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh secured airline tickets for 22 Filipino workers of the Mohammad Al-Mojil Group (MMG) to facilitate their immediate repatriation to the Philippines.

The 22 Filipinos, who will arrive in Manila on 4 April 2015, are among the hundreds of Filipino overseas workers employed by the struggling Saudi company.

Due to its acute financial and operational problems, MMG has failed in their responsibility to, among others, provide airfares for workers due for repatriation to their countries of origin. For this reason, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh extended immediate assistance to ensure that the Filipino workers of the company are able to return to the country at the first possible opportunity.

This repatriation is part of the continuous efforts by the Embassy to effect the complete repatriation of Filipino workers staying at the company’s facility in Jubail, Eastern Province.

The Embassy has also provided a local lawyer to represent the Filipino MMG workers who have decided to file a legal complaint against the company for gross violations of their rights and entitlements under Saudi Labor Law. The legal case is ongoing at the Saudi Labor Office (SLO) Primary Commission in Dammam, Eastern Province.(END)
