Philippine Embassy donates kids' artwork
to the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh
(Riyadh, 1 April 2014) – The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh donated artwork made by 21 young children of embassy personnel to the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSHRC) on 1 April 2014.
Entitled, “Mga Bagay na Gusto Ko sa Saudi Arabia” (The Things I Like About Saudi Arabia), the artwork consisted of a collection of felt fabric art set in two large frames that were imagined and created by 5-11 year olds, with the help of their mothers.
The artwork was an illustration of what Filipino children like most about living in Saudi Arabia, and an expression of their solidarity with their young Saudi friends.
The project was the brainchild of Madame Jasmine Alferez, spouse of Minister and Consul-General Marshall Louis Alferez, and the Philippine Embassy Ladies Group that she leads.
Consul-General Alferez formally turned over the artwork to the hospital. Senior hospital management officials, led by Mr. Fahd Al-Shair, Head of the Public and Media Affairs Department, received the artwork on behalf of the hospital.
“We Filipinos recognize the power of art to inspire and heal, and it is our sincere hope that the young patients and the medical staff of King Faisal Specialist Hospital will enjoy looking at the artwork as much as our young artists enjoyed making them,” Consul-General Alferez remarked during the turnover program.
Hospital officials also took the opportunity to praise the creativity of the young artists and their mothers, and thanked the Embassy for its generous donation. They gave a briefing on the history of the hospital, particularly its long association with Filipino medical and technical staff, many of whom have worked decades there. Four of these decades-long Filipino medical veterans were present at the turnover.
The hospital officials, including the various ward supervisors present, likewise hailed the competence and work ethic of all the Filipino staff.
The artwork will be displayed in the hospital’s pediatric ward. (END)
