PHILIPPINE EMBASSY AND POLO ACTIVATE JOINT ASSISTANCE DESK (JAD) IN EASTERN REGION OF SAUDI ARABIA

25 April 2016 - Officials from the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, led by Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago, met with the officers and staff of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, Eastern Region Operations (POLO-ERO) this weekend to discuss the implementation of the Joint Assistance Desk (JAD) in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia.
Ambassador Tago and First Secretary and Consul Christopher Patrick T. Aro briefed POLO-ERO Officer-in-Charge Dayang Dayang Sittie Kaushar G. Jaafar, along with her officers and staff on the procedures for implementation of the JAD, and on coordinating their efforts to assist distressed Filipinos in the Eastern Region.
The JAD is one of the mechanisms prescribed by the Joint Manual of Operations in Providing Assistance to Migrant Workers and Other Filipinos Overseas, which is a team effort of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
The Joint Manual prescribes that the JAD act as the centralized clearance and referral unit for Overseas Filipinos in distress, and shall be composed of representatives from the Embassy’s Assistance to Nationals Section (ANS) and the POLO.

The JAD provides assistance for Filipinos with ATN and Labor related concerns only.
ATN concerns relate to assistance for criminal cases; immigration cases, detention; shipment of remains; and road traffic accident cases.
Labor concerns relate to employment – related concerns such as medical referrals; non performance of family obligations; ascertaining whereabouts, runaways, and other grievances; repatriation, particularly of documented workers; death benefits, ends-of-service benefits, insurance claims and other benefits arising from employment, such as unpaid salaries, unpaid benefits, working conditions, final exit and repatriation.
