Philippine Embassy Commemorates
National Heroes Day with
"Heneral Luna"

(Riyadh, 30 August 2016) – In celebration of this year’s National Heroes Day, with the theme, “Bawat Pilipino, Bayaning Katuwang sa Pagbabago”, the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh organized the showing of the critically-acclaimed and blockbuster historical movie, “Heneral Luna” at the King Fahad Cultural Center in Riyadh.
The 2-hour biopic revolves around General Antonio Luna who, at that time, was at the helm of the Philippine Revolutionary Army during the Philippine-American War. He was assassinated on 5 June 5, 1899 while serving as Supreme Chief of the Army under the First Philippine Republic under the leadership of President Emilio Aguinaldo.
The movie was directed by Jerrold Tarog and produced by Artikulo Uno Productions. The film was lauded for its cinematography, writing, acting and plot. It was chosen as the Philippine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.
The film showing was attended by Grades 7 and 8 students from the various Philippine-curriculum Schools in Riyadh, Embassy personnel and their dependents.

Before the film showing, First Secretary and Consul Mary Jennifer D. Dingal met with the Cultural Center’s Second Manager, Mr. Hamid Al-Shuais who expressed the Center’s appreciation for having been chosen by the Embassy as the venue for the film showing. First Secretary and Consul Dingal, on the other hand, personally thanked the administration of the King Fahad Cultural Center for their support.
