Philippine-Curriculum Schools Participate
in the British International School in Riyadh International Week

(Riyadh, 12 February 2017) -  The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh wishes to informs the Filipino community that the eight (8) Philippine-curriculum Schools in Riyadh participated in the British International School, Riyadh International Week held on 5-9 February 2017 at its school campus.

Five (5) Philippine International Schools performed different Philippine dances during the Open Day held on Thursday, 9 February 2017.

Palm Crest International School performed a “Medley of Philippine Dances” while the  International Philippine School in Riyadh performed “Singkil” before the primary classes (Years 1 – 6).

Al Dannah International School, on the other hand, performed “Tag-Araw” and Elite International School performed “Magkakaugnay” before the Senior classes (Years 7 - 13).

At the Open Field, Al Taj International School performed “Maglalatik” before the crowd composed of all students and other participating countries such as Thailand, China, Sudan, and Pakistan.

A band from Palm Crest International School also performed during the activity.

Before the international week, selected students from the Philippine-curriculum Schools also participated in a Students Conference with the theme, “How Can We Promote Peace Through Internationalism?”.

The conference focused on the students’ awareness on the effect of the conflicts happening globally, especially to the refugees from the different countries in the Middle East. 

The students prepared a video on the subject and participated in the different discussion groups together with other international schools in Riyadh.

During the conference, students from the Second Philippine International School performed an interpretative dance entitled “Song of Peace and Hope” by Jonathan Van Der Lugt.

The British International School in Riyadh holds this yearly activity to bring their students closer to other students from other countries. It also enables them to understand and respect the different culture and beliefs of the students by celebrating internationalism.

Ms. Yasmin Hameed, Culture and Diversity Coordinator, was instrumental in organizing the international week, while Mr. Martin Walsh acted as the school coordinator for the students’ conference.

The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh was also given a booth where it displayed a wide array of Filipino games such as sungka, trumpo and tirador. Other Philippine display also included a miniature vinta, tricycle, jeepney, kalesa and ice cream cart.

Philippine tourism brochures were also distributed during the event. Philippine food samplers like pulvoron and pastillas were given to visitors.
